Flag Raising Ceremony Commemorating Philippine Independence Day

It was a beautiful morning at Grand Parade for the flag raising ceremony commemorating Philippine Independence Day.

June 12th is the yearly, world-wide celebration. This year marked 121 years of independence.

A tree-planting was also held, following the proclamation, read by Deputy Mayor Tony Mancini, stating that June will officially be known as Filipino Heritage Month.

The traditional clothing that many of the attendees were wearing were beautiful; so vibrant and full of colour!

Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage, Leo Glavine, and Minister of African Nova Scotia Affairs, Tony Ince, were also in attendance.

We are so happy to have such a large Filipino community in Clayton Park West, and they make a great addition to the fabric of our society.

Maligayang pagdiriwang ng Araw ng Kasarinlan – Happy Independence Day!
