18 Sep Free Menstrual Products Throughout Nova Scotia Schools
I was thrilled to be joined by Kelly Regan, Minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, and Zach Churchill, Minister of Education, at Halifax West High School yesterday for a very important announcement.
The announcement stated that starting immediately, all schools throughout Nova Scotia will now have access to free menstrual products.
The decision was implemented to break down the barriers that some students may experience when trying to access or afford these products.
At the announcement, I was especially impressed with Aya and Viyan; Two students who are on the Halifax West Health Team.
Both of these Syrian-born women have only been in Canada for three years, but I am so impressed with their progress; They have given back to their communities and beautifully integrated well in our school system.
I have known Viyan and her family since my interpreting days.
The courage and ability Aya showed while speaking with the media yesterday was so impressive – Well done, Aya!
