Heritage Day 2020!

This past Monday, my office, the Friends of Clayton Park Society and the Canada Games Centre hosted a spectacular #HeritageDay celebration.

This year’s Hertiage Day theme was the 10th Anniversary of the Africville Apology.

There are so many activities and events that I wish to highlight, but first and foremost, I would like to thank our dedicated volunteers who spent their holiday helping us. We had over 30 volunteers; You are the reason this event was so successful!

It was our first time collaborating with the Canada Games Centre, and I hope it is a tradition that continues for many years to come! Thank you for accommodating us with the space and for any items we needed during the event. We were told that almost 1,000 people attended the Canada Games Centre between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Thank you to the Friends of Clayton Park Society, who have always been long time partners and supporters of our local community events. It was a beautiful thing to come together for the wonderful riding of #ClaytonParkWest.

Thank you to Grand Moment Digital Productions for the gorgeous photos you took throughout the day.

Thank you to Ifeoma Esonwune and Atlantic Grubs catering services, for the delicious traditional African and Nigerian cuisine! The taste and presentation was simply amazing. Some of the foods they made were puff puff’s and spicy chicken wings.

Thank you to Brennan Norris from the Dominos on Parkland Drive, for always donating your tasty pizza! It was gone within seconds.

Thank you to Andrew Cogswell, Riley and the entire Cogswell family for creating the, ‘Slam Dunk Your Junk’ baskets as part of our #LitterPrevention initiative.

Also, a big thank you goes out to KC’S Face Painting; I know you were a hit with the children! You are a true artistic talent.

And a huge thank you to the incredible musical talents of the Nova Nubian Drummers who played almost an hour set for our audience; They had everyone dancing and clapping the entire time.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to my CA, Zeina Klayme, and volunteer Judy Foran, who prepared these events and activities for you all to enjoy. Zeina is already thinking about what to do for next year’s event, as we received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from our constituents!

We hope you had a great time!
