18 Jan Most Inspiring Immigrants in the Maritimes Awards
I had the honour of speaking on behalf of the Premier at My Halifax Experience’s Most Inspiring Immigrants in the Maritimes awards at the Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax.
I know how the Premier feels about our wonderful immigration system. We have always been an example to the rest of the world of how immigration should work — and we have constantly improved it.
Everyday, our government works hard to ensure that newcomers thrive in their daily lives in this province, whether it is in school or in their careers. I am proud to be part of a government that makes sure this happens.
There were 16 recipients at tonight’s event, including Clayton Park West’s own: Ifeoma Esonwune of Matella Event Concepts and Israel Ekanem who is the creator of many award-winning films through his production company, Ubuntu Media. To view the other recipients, please browse the album.
I was happy to give out two awards; One to a dear friend, Ossama Nasrallah, who is a local entrepreneur and community leader.
To echo my remarks at the ceremony, we are truly the United Nations; Canada’s immigration system is like no other. As an immigrant myself, having lived in other places, I can personally and honestly say that Canada felt like home since the day I stepped onto its soil. There is something very special about Canada and it’s accepting nature.
Thank you to Ifeanyi Emesih, founder of #MyHalifaxExperience and My East Coast Experience, along with Shayoun and Daniel, for putting on this incredible, well-organized and sold-out event!
Thank you to the amazing Colours of Africa Band, you did a phenomenal job of getting the crowd in the spirit of celebrating the various cultures present.
It was my pleasure to attend and I cannot wait for next year!
