Nigeria Week Proclamation

Today, the Nigerian community of Nova Scotia, and many attendees, gathered at Grand Parade Square to commemorate the 59th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Nigerian Independence, and also to observe and celebrate the Proclamation of Nigeria Week in Nova Scotia.

The Nigerian Flag was raised after the Proclamation was read.

I was more than happy to say a few words from my heart during the ceremony, and I am delighted to have gotten to know many members of the Nigerian community in my riding; They have given back in a variety of ways at various events, especially the Annual Clayton Park West Community BBQ, and at Saint Benedict’s Church.

My dear friend Ifeoma Esonwune has also done a lot for the young women and children in Clayton Park West, hosting initiatives like the Children Cook’s Club, and the Network for the Empowerment of Women.

Nigeria Week commenced on September 28th and ends on October 5th in this Province.

I wish to congratulate all my Nigerian friends and the community at large on this wonderful milestone; It is an honour and a memory that the Nigerian community will cherish forever.
