Protections for Renters

We know many Nova Scotians have to worry about having a safe, warm place to call home.
These worries are only amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s why our government is taking concrete steps to protect renters from excessive rent increases and evictions due to renovations.
Effective immediately, all rent increases are capped at 2%, and eviction orders for renovations are no longer being issued.
In addition, we are investing $1.7 million to allocate an additional 30 beds for those experiencing homelessness.
We have also established a commission on affordable housing to determine long-term strategies moving forward.
