13 Jul Funding to Research and Address Domestic Violence
Eighteen community organizations and groups throughout Nova Scotia are receiving grants to help prevent domestic violence.
The grants form part of government’s $9 million investment in the development of a provincial plan, Standing Together, to prevent domestic violence and support victims and their families. The combined grants total $945,700.
There are two different types of grants available. The Standing Together Domestic Violence Connect Grants provides up to $25,000 over one year for projects to develop learning and teaching tools and to show how groups are working to prevent and disrupt cycles of violence. The Standing Together Domestic Violence Shift Grants provide up to $75,000 over two years to help organizations explore, develop and test new ideas for preventing domestic violence and supporting victims and their families.
Some of the projects that are receiving grant money are addressing domestic violence in specific communities, including African Nova Scotian and Mi’kmaw communities. Other projects focus on engaging and developing supports for groups such as children and youth, men and boys, girls and young women, newcomers and criminalized women.
