African Heritage Month

Virtual celebrations began on January 26th, for African Heritage Month with a provincial proclamation launch and poster unveiling with Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc, Premier Stephen McNeil and African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Tony Ince.

This year, the theme is: Black History Matters: Listen, Learn, Share and Act.
The theme will be emphasizing the culture, history, achievements and contributions of African Nova Scotians across the province.

Please note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, African Heritage Month events will be virtual this February.

The African Heritage Month Information Network supports and promotes the events and is also responsible for selecting the theme and design of the poster.
The Network includes more than 10 African Nova Scotian organizations.

I am currently reminiscing of last year’s poster unveiling of the African Heritage Month at the province House, the theme was The Ties That Bind: Faith, Family and Community. I dearly miss attending gatherings and events.
