This day recognizes the unique challenges girls face and aims to draw attention to the issues that impair the fulfillment of girls’ human rights.

Each year, there is a different theme to celebrate. This year’s theme is “My voice, our equal future”. This theme was highlighted in the overall message of the event, which was to empower yourself and the importance of girls raising their voices.

One of my casual staff members, Emily Williams, joined a Zoom event on the International Day of the Girl Child this afternoon organized by the Network for the Empowerment of Women.

Emily was joined by women and girls from around the world, including Halifax, Montréal, Nigeria, and Uganda.

The agenda was filled with a range of empowering activities, including learning about female empowerment, the dangers of human trafficking, and the importance of self-esteem and positive thinking.
