International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This is a time to reflect on the barriers and challenges individuals living with disabilities face at home, at work, and in our communities. Today is a reminder that we must face these challenges together.
In Canada, this year’s theme is ‘Not All Disabilities are Visible, in recognition of all those who live with invisible challenges. Many Canadians live with various afflictions you can’t see- such as cognitive disabilities, hearing impairments, post-traumatic stress disorder, mental illness and numerous other health related conditions.
Today, we stand with all those who defy stereotypes and overcome stigma and barriers and recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive Nova Scotia, based on equality and human rights for all.
