May is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Month

May is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Month. I was so inspired by a constituent, Brenda Munro, after our Zoom chat. Please take the time to read about Brenda, and how we can help her and the MS Society continue to fundraise during these challenging times.
“My name is Brenda Munro and I have lived well with Multiple Sclerosis for 26 years. Thank you to the honourable DiCostanzo for contacting me with your interest in MS Awareness month. 90,000 Canadians live with MS, including 1,000+ in NL, 2,000 in NB, nearly 1,000 in PE and over 3,000 in NS.”
“I have been blessed to be able to keep my MS in check by following my doctors’ (and my nurse mother’s) orders, living in NS where our government has been a national leader in coverage of MS medications, and finding med’s that work for me. In Halifax I have been guided by support from the Dalhousie MS Research Unit right here in Halifax who shepherd me along the way. https://www.cdha.nshealth.ca/dmsru
“I believe it has been just as important, to exercise as much as I am able to every day. I encourage others (that is everyone, whether you have MS or not) to do the same be it chair yoga, walking, swimming, or pickle ball it does not matter. Do whatever you can to stay as healthy as possible. There are many hiking trails and green spaces to explore in this riding and I never get bored even though I have lived here all my life.”
“The long-standing MS Bike became a virtual one-day event in 2020 and will be again in September 2021. The same happened and will happen again at the end of May 2021 with MS Walk. I will complete the virtual MS Walk with my Mum.”
“Thank you again, to the honorable DiCostanzo, for encouraging me to share this story which hopefully will help shine a light on the importance MS Awareness month of May. Times have changed during these Covid days as charities must work hard differently to achieve the same support previously gained.”
“Hoping all will stay safe wherever your trail takes you. 😊
